Meghan Markle now looks more like a Hollywood 'wannabe' than a member of the Royal Family, says Richard Eden.
Writing in the latest edition of his Palace Confidential newsletter, Eden suggests that, in moving away from Britain, the Duchess of Sussex has turned her back on a life of genuine celebrity. And that success no longer lies within her own hands.
But here was Meghan, who would have joined Catherine at the opulent state banquet at Buckingham Palace, instead walking down the carpet at the Power Of Women event.’
‘While the Princess of Wales stole the show in a striking scarlet cape coat as she greeted South Korean president Yoon Suk Yeol at the start of his state visit to Britain, Meghan was courting the cameras on a red carpet in Los Angelese,’ he writes.
Unaccompanied by Prince Harry, writes Eden, Meghan ‘couldn’t have looked less regal… just another celebrity waiting to be interviewed by a reporter for Variety magazine.
‘She posed for photographers like the wannabe starlet she once was, before being rushed along impatiently by another guest.
‘Her interview emphasised that success is no longer in her own hands.
‘She talked about the unnamed “exciting” new projects that her television company, Archewell Productions, “can’t wait to announce. Source Daily mail

It’s been a while since the Duchess of Sussex walked a red carpet, but the royal ended her hiatus at Variety’s Power of Women gala in Los Angeles on Thursday night in memorable fashion, bringing her signature refined minimalism along with her. Known for her sartorial skill when it comes to understated ensembles, neutral palettes and polished yet unassuming style choices, Meghan Markle perfected it once again, and better than ever before, on the gala crimson carpet with a stunning gown from New York-based designer Proenza Scholder.
A contemporary-chic brand known for its abstract approach to minimalism, it’s a slightly more modern choice for a royal, but the gown in question couldn’t suit the elegant young Duchess and her penchant for stylish simplicity more.
The beige off-the-shoulder, floor-length number was elevated by a well-placed seam detail and slits up the front and sides, making it easily one of the royal’s most subtly striking looks to date.
She paired the gown with her beloved Aquazzura heels, a black leather clutch and minimal gold accessories by affordable jewellery brand Mejuri. Both the Charlotte bold ring and chunky huggie hoops are priced below $150, making it that much easier for you to replicate the royal’s look.
Markle finished the ensemble with a slicked back, centre-parted bun and a neutral make-up base, perfectly encapsulating the undecorated classiness of this modish, natural look.
To say the royal has mastered elegant minimalist is an understatement, and this latest red carpet appearance only confirms that her style is maturing into an even more sophisticated iteration of itself—one that works impeccably well for this Duchess.
